Opening of Terminal 3

Opened in 2009, the impressive Terminal 3 building increased Abu Dhabi International Airport’s overall annual passenger capacity by 5 million, to over 12 million.

The terminal is dedicated to Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, and is part of our AED 25 billion development programme to cater to the projected increase in passenger traffic, the growth of Etihad and the demand from other airlines looking to fly into Abu Dhabi.

Terminal features

The terminal building created a premium travel experience for passengers. It features:

  • Luxury Etihad lounges

  • Twenty exclusive, concierge style check-in counters

  • A unique retail offering, Abu Dhabi Duty Free, managed by DFS, the world’s largest leading luxury retailer, which introduced luxury brands and products previously unavailable in the UAE, such as:

    • Top fashion labels such as Gucci, Chloé and Hermès

    • Beauty brands including Chanel and Estee Lauder

    • Jewellery outlets including Cartier, Bulgari, Rolex and TAGHeuer 

    •  More than 70 world renowned luxury brands in sunglasses, writing instruments, men’s collections and accessories

  • Seven premium restaurants and cafes

  • Nine Aircraft parking positions with eight boarding bridges (currently two are A380 compatible which will be upgraded to four)

  • A new multi storey car park.
