Abu Dhabi Airports is a public joint-stock company, Abu Dhabi Airports is part of ADQ, one of the region’s largest holding companies with a diverse portfolio of major enterprises spanning key sectors of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil economy. Created in 2006 to spearhead the redevelopment of the Emirate’s aviation infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Airports plays an important role in the Government of Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030.

We honour this mandate through the operations of the following airports and companies.


Abu Dhabi Airports owns and operates five airports, each serving a specific travel segment.

  • Abu Dhabi International Airport
    Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), the principal asset of Abu Dhabi Airports, is one of the fastest growing airport hubs in the world, currently serving over 96 destinations in 56 countries.
    Within the next couple of years, over twenty million passengers are expected to pass through AUH.  To meet this growing demand, Abu Dhabi Airports has begun the construction of the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB), a key element of the future Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC), which will include cargo and catering facilities, utilities and related infrastructure. 
    The MTB will become the primary gateway for passengers travelling through Abu Dhabi, and the future home of Etihad Airways, the National Carrier of the UAE. The MTB is central to the long-term success of the aviation sector in the Emirate. 

  • Al Ain International Airport
    Abu Dhabi’s second airport, Al Ain International Airport is set to gain global recognition as a centre of excellence for technology and innovation through its collaboration with Mubadala Aerospace. In 2008 Abu Dhabi Airports and Mubadala jointly established the UAE’s first aerospace cluster in Al Ain, with Strata being its key component Al Ain International Airport is located 18km northwest of Al Ain City.

  •  Al Bateen Executive Airport
    Al Bateen Executive Airport is the first dedicated business aviation and private jet airport in the Middle East and North Africa and enjoys a strategic position in the heart of the City of Abu Dhabi.  The airport currently has a stand capacity for up to 90 private jets. Al Bateen Executive Airport launched DhabiJet in 2011 to be its main Fixed Base Operator (FBO). 

  • Delma Island Airport
    Delma Airport plays a vital role in the development of the island, linking its local population of 6,000 to Abu Dhabi by providing high quality infrastructure.

  • Sir Bani Yas Island Airport Sir Bani Yas Airport caters mainly to tourists visiting the Natural Island located 250km southwest of the Abu Dhabi coast in partnership with Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC).


  • Abu Dhabi Airport Business City

    Abu Dhabi Airport Business City operates its facilities at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Bateen Executive Airport and Al Ain International Airport to drive private and public partnerships, investment and property development.

    Operated and regulated by Abu Dhabi Airports, Abu Dhabi Airport Business City comprises of dedicated business, logistics and light industrial parks functioning as one-stop service hubs.  These parks are purposely developed to attract industry clusters such as:

  • Abu Dhabi Duty Free

    Established in 1984, Abu Dhabi Duty Free is responsible for managing all retail, food & beverage and services operation within Abu Dhabi Airports, by creating a unique airport environment for business and leisure passengers through a range of exclusive retail offerings, world-renowned outlets and luxurious airport lounges.

    The MTB will provide 28,000sqm of space for duty free shopping, dining, relaxation and entertainment, and is expected to grow the Abu Dhabi Duty Free business to over AED 1.5 billion each year.

  • The Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS)

    GCAS is an IATA Authorized Training Centre and is the first full Gold member of ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme. It is a centre of excellence for airport and aviation training and is based in Abu Dhabi. It was established in 2009 by Abu Dhabi Airports, to lead the development of the aviation industry in the United Arab Emirates and the region, through developing highly qualified aviation professionals.

    GCAS has also partnered with leading international organisations such as JAATO, ACI, and ICAO to ensure that industry best practices and leading-edge courses are brought to the Middle East. Through its own proprietary courses and those of its partners, GCAS provides cost effective training solutions to address the challenges of the 21st century aviation industry. 

Capital Projects and Construction

The construction of the Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) at Abu Dhabi International Airport is currently ongoing in order to accommodate the anticipated 30 million annual passengers . 

During this construction phase of the MTC, our main focus is on the development of the infrastructure network and delivering the Capacity Enhancement Programme (CEP) to accommodate the rapidly increasing passenger demand and enhance the customer experience.

Among these projects, Abu Dhabi International Airport has witnessed:

  • The opening of the ultramodern Terminal 3, Etihad Airways’ dedicated terminal, increasing the airline’s annual handling capacity by five million passengers

  • The unveiling of the new 4,100 metre North Runway, doubling the airport’s runway capacity, making AUH the UAE’s first airport with CATIIIB capability

  • Complete refurbishment of Terminal 1

  • The construction and operation of a new Air Traffic Control tower, currently the tallest and amongst the world’s most technologically advanced

  • The opening of a new Arrivals Hall, enhancing passenger and visitor flow.

Additionally, a VIP terminal is set to open to all interested travellers which will be operated by the internationally recognised National Aviation Services (NAS). Other airports within the company’s portfolio are also seeing various upgrades and developments in their facilities and services such as the implementation of the Instrument landing System (ILS) at Al Bateen Executive Airport.
