Exciting developments are being made with the reconstruction of Southern Runway and the new Midfield Airside Road Tunnel at Abu Dhabi Airport. The renovation of the Southern Runway, one of the most critical pieces of infrastructure in Abu Dhabi at the moment, will allow larger aircraft to manoeuvre on it and ensure operation even in low visibility. The new Midfield Airside Road Tunnel, which will pass beneath the Southern Runway, will offer a vital link between the South Terminals and the new Midfield Terminal on the West Side.

Watch early stages of world’s Largest Baggage Handling System Play

The Baggage Handling System for the Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) is in its exciting early stages of development. The team working on it have installed over 300 metres of a total of 28 kilometres of conveyer belt, showing just how sizeable the system will be. Indeed, not only will the Baggage Handling System be the world’s biggest, it will also be the most technically advanced.

The Midfield Terminal Complex has developed incredibly well over March and April 2014, as this video shows. The video features fantastic aerial views of the evolving structure – including the striking central processor, roof arches and the four piers – as well as Tony Douglas, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports Company, remarking that what has been achieved over the last 12 months is “absolutely incredible”.

Exciting progress made with the world’s largest Baggage Handling SystemPlay
The Baggage Handling System (BHS) for the Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC), which will be the world’s largest, is making exciting progress. 1km of belt conveyer has now been installed, as has 500 tons of support steel work.
This short video features narration from the project’s construction manager, as well as the Vice President of the Midfield Terminal Project programme, who both see the technologically sophisticated BHS as the heart of the MTC project.
